After following the hunger strike at Yarl’s Wood detention centre, the Testimony Project provides a closer look at what has happened over the past five weeks and a round-up of commentary on the strike.
On Friday 29 January, Marjorie Nshmere-Ojule was finally reunited with her 12 year old daughter Sweetny. Marjorie had not seen Sweetny for eight years, having fled Uganda when she was four years old. Olivia Mann, photographer for The Testimony Project was at the airport to witness their long-awaited reunion. These are her photographs.
In his report published last month, the Children’s Commissioner for England, Sir Al Aynsley-Green, spoke out strongly against the trauma and distress caused to the 2,000 children detained in UK removal centres.
