Legal assistance and advice to asylum seekers is provided through private solicitors or through specialised agencies: Refugee and Migrant Justice (http://www.refugee-legal-centre.org.uk/) and the Immigration Advisory Service (http://www.iasuk.org/home.aspx) - provide their services free of charge under the Legal Aid scheme.

For information about other law firms in your area who are able to provide asylum and immigration advice under the Legal Aid scheme, then please call Community Legal Service Direct on 0845 345 4 345 or view their website (http://www.communitylegaladvice.org.uk/index.jsp).

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) website has some general information that you may find useful: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/asylum/

I hope that this is of some assistance to you.

Free legal advice in Islington

Anonymous — Mon, 01/25/2010 - 12:00

Hi,
There is a drop-in centre at St. Mary's church on Upper Street in Islington - it's called Islington Legal Advice Centre (ILAC). It's every Thursday between 7 and 8pm and you don't need an appointment. You also don't need to be from the area.
The address of the church is:
St Mary’s Parish Office
Upper Street
Islington
London N1 2TX

The lawyers are very nice! Hope this helps.

Hi, if you are still looking I know of another one which is in Lambeth. They have sessions for 2 hours each Monday and the address is Unit 4, The Co-op centre, 11 Mowll Street, SW9 6BG.
The nearest tube is Oval tube.
Hope this of use to you or someone else
