I was raped. Where can I get support?
I was raped before I arrived in the UK by a member of my family. This had really affected my confidence and I find it difficult to have a relationship because of it. Is there anywhere I can get support. I would appreciate your advice. Anon

Hi, I posted this information
Anonymous — Fri, 03/19/2010 - 15:30Hi, I posted this information in another thread on this forum. It is definitely worth exploring the forum, there is lots of useful information to be found:
The Helen Bamber Foundation is a wonderful organisation who works hard to support people like you.
Here is some information from their website:
"Exploitation, violence and atrocity are words familiar to all of us. No one likes them, and it’s only natural to shut them out. We are a collective of human rights specialists who respond with compassion and creativity to the legacy of cruelty.
We work with survivors of genocide, torture, trafficking and rape who seek safety and refuge. We draw upon their inner resources, providing them with practical support and treatment to deal with their pasts and build new futures
Our clients are courageous but vulnerable people. The mental scars are expressed through nightmares, horrifying flashbacks and self-loathing. We help to mend what was broken in a safe and supportive environment, where restorative relationships enable survivors to feel whole again."
Visit their website at: http://www.helenbamber.org/
I hope this helps,
Sarah
Hi, someone has already given
Anonymous — Thu, 03/11/2010 - 19:10Hi, someone has already given you a suggestion. Here is another idea if you would like to see someone in person. I don't know where you are but if you go to this website and put in the neighbourhood where you live then you can find a rape crisis centre near you where you can go and be offered support.

That sounds terrible. It is
Anonymous — Thu, 03/11/2010 - 19:06That sounds terrible. It is so important that you speak to someone so you can come to terms with what happened to you and realise that you are not alone in what you have suffered. Here is a number for a free and confidential line to phone for advice and support
0808 8000 123 - this phone will always be answered by women.
If you would rather speak to a man the this number is always answered by men and the same advice and support is offered
0808 800 0122.
The charity is called "Rape and Advice Line".
Good luck. Hope this helps.
