New play at the Oval House Theatre – Every Year, Every Day, I Am Walking
In a new play of African physical theatre, two actresses trace the story of Aggie and her mother Ernestine as they flee from their homeland to travel across Africa to an alien environment.
The production uses very little spoken dialogue, some of which is in English, and some of which is in French. The story is primarily told through physical images and the evocative musical text.
After the show, there will be a free discussion on Tuesday, 2 March on ‘South African Theatre and its enduring worldwide influence’ and on Tuesday, 9 March on ‘Art and Exile’,which aims to explore the challenging relationship between the artist and the refugee.
Performances take place daily at 7.45 p.m. from 24 February to 13 March, with an additional performance at 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 4 March 2010.
